Read part one:The Veil Of Treason 1
The Guardian and the Light Child
"Who are you?" Those were the first words her father spoke.
The pregnant woman was amazed, and she turned to Golden Light. "Thank you. I don't have anything to repay you for this act of kindness."
"Be calm, Abigail. You have paid more than your dues; it is time for you to enjoy the fruit of your labor."
"I don't understand. How did you know my name? And what do you mean about this talk? I'm just a poor woman with a rejected pregnancy."
Her father stood up from his sickbed, amazed at how he had been healed. He had known only pain and suffering for five hard years, bedridden while his family struggled. He had prayed for death, but it had never come. He had prayed for closure because seeing his family suffer while he lay there was the greatest torture of his life—the pain was minimal compared to seeing his wife and daughter struggle. And now, she had a pregnancy to add to their burdens.
"I'm grateful for your healing, stranger," he said. "I don't understand what is going on. Please, you said you would reveal the reason," he said, looking at Golden Light.
"Yes, I did," Golden Light said as he sat down on the bed her father had vacated.
Abigail watched her father as he walked about the tiny room. She had tears in her eyes; it was indeed a miracle. Seeing him walk and talk with no pain made her heart beat with joy.
"Will you be kind enough to explain it to us?" her father asked.
"I will."
"When?" Abigail asked him. "And how did you even know my name?"
Golden Light had a smile on his lips that made him glow, and she could see a golden mist shrouded around him.
"I know more than you can ever come to know. I know about Bali, and I know how he treated and threatened you. I know your father's name is Baldric and your mother's name is Allora. She is at the market selling baskets, but she wouldn't sell anything today. Today, your life changes."
"Who are you?" Baldric asked.
"I'm just a simple messenger."
"A simple messenger can't have such power and knowledge," Baldric said, bowing his head.
"Please, don't do that. You're the grandfather of the Light Child."
"Light Child?" Abigail asked, clamping her hand over her stomach as if to protect the baby inside.
"Yes."
"That doesn't explain anything!"
"Please, have a seat. I can't be answering questions from both of you at once; it is distracting," he said, smiling. When he saw the frowns on their faces, he grinned more. "I was just joking."
"Light Child?" Abigail prompted again.
Golden Light sighed. He looked at her and said, "Your child has been chosen by the Creator to save humanity."
"But why? What is so special about my child that the Creator would choose him?"
"I don't know; I'm just the messenger. My name is Golden Light, and I am one of those you call an angel. I was asked to pass this message to you. Hear me, Baldric: You have been chosen as the guardian of the Light Child. Protect him, and make him a warrior. The time will come when he will be at the forefront of the fight that is taking place even now."
"He is my grandchild; of course I will protect him. I don't need anyone to tell me that," Baldric said firmly.
"You are a poor man. You have no power or influence, and anyone could harm you and walk away. You have been bedridden while the world changed, and you know it not. I am offering you power and riches, and I will be leaving three warrior angels as his protectors until he comes of age."
"And after that?"
"War," Golden Light said simply.
The Dark Temple Below the Earth
Mighty Osaka sat in his throne room, a massive chamber as dark as night. Only those with the power of the night could see in there. He sat with his red eyes smoking and an angry snarl curling his lips. His brother had played him. His plan of bringing down the Veil was now on hold—but only temporarily.
"There is always a way," he thought. His brother may have sacrificed a thousand angels to strengthen the Veil, but their life force would be a waste once he found a way through. He sniffed the air and grew angrier. What was the power of that grey brother of his doing on Earth? He wondered what move his brother was making. He could feel the magic, but he couldn't pinpoint the exact location.
Calling on the power of the earth and the dead wind, he could swear an angel had visited the realm. He could feel the trace of that golden fool. After all, Osaka had lived in the sky before he was cast out; he knew all their signatures, and he could feel the one who called himself Golden Light.
He summoned Bagnus. A portal opened and Bagnus stumbled in, falling to his knees as he felt the presence of Osaka. He couldn't see anything in the dark, and he struggled to breathe, knowing the air bubble over his head was the only thing keeping him alive.
"Mighty One, you summoned me."
"Ha, Bagnus. My most loyal soldier."
Bagnus was overjoyed. While the Great One referred to him as a servant, Osaka called him a soldier. "The Great One will pay," he snarled.
Osaka grinned. He knew what was in Bagnus's mind. His brother had forgotten one thing: Bagnus still had the blood of an angel, and it would be of use when the time came. "Yes, Bagnus. How is the army?"
"Mighty Osaka, the army is growing. Very soon, we will start the campaign."
"That is great, Bagnus. But our plans may be put on hold," Osaka said with a sigh.
"On hold, Mighty One?"
"Yes. My brother sacrificed a thousand angels to strengthen the Veil. It has defeated our immediate plan."
Bagnus snarled. "He will pay! I will spill my own blood to see him regret this betrayal."
"Keep that fire burning, Bagnus. You will be the instrument of that justice. You promised with blood; when the time comes, do not shy away from the blood that will be needed. For your loyalty, I reward you with the power of souls."
Bagnus prostrated on the hard floor. He could feel the heat despite Osaka’s protection. "I am grateful for your generosity, Mighty One."
"Our plans have shifted. It will take about twenty years to weaken the Veil again. But I can smell Golden Light’s signature on Earth. My brother has countered us, and we need to know what he is doing."
"Golden Light!" Bagnus growled. "I will hunt him and kill him!"
"No need. He has left the Earth. But he visited a place. We need to start there and find out who he saw."
"Couldn't you use your power, Mighty Osaka?"
"My brother masked this well. He may have used his own blood to hide the location."
"His blood is powerful," Bagnus agreed. "I can tell from my past life."
"Keep growing the army," Osaka commanded. "Listen for even a whisper. Twenty years is like a day. We will wait, and then we will attack."
"Yes, Mighty Osaka," Bagnus said as the portal opened behind him.
